Behind the scenes and other musings

Hello all! I hope you’ve had a great weekend!

It may seem like I haven’t crafted at all this weekend, as I have not shown you anything since Friday, however, I have been quite busy!

I have been working on a “project life style” book of my Scrapbooking year. 2017 is being so amazing with all the things happening that I decided to keep like a diary. I started a few weeks ago and I have now completely caught up. In this diary/project life book I talk about being part of design teams, when I’ve been to crops, who I sat with and talked to, how I was feeling, etc. It’s a bit more personal than what I write here on the blog, and obviously it is decorated nicely and there are photos too! I may take some photos soon and post them here.

I also made a layout on Saturday morning for a Guest Designer spot for a challenge blog. I can’t reveal any more as it is a surprise! I haven’t heard back from the blog owner so I hope that she got everything that she needs! I would absolutely love to build up my scrappy CV a bit more, although I just enjoy the challenges anyway!

Today I have been working behind the scenes on UK Scrap Addicts. We are planning a super event for International Scrapbooking Day in May and some of the design team ladies have been brainstorming activities, etc. One of the activities planned is a Chinese Whispers game. One of the designers start with a layout, which she then sends privately to a second lady who will scraplift it or use it as inspiration or starting point. So by the time this has been done 12 times, there won’t be any similarities with the original layout at all!

On other news, a few weeks ago I applied to be part of the Simple stories design team for 2017. I knew I had no chance, since my style is nice and all, but it’s nowhere near as amazing as so many other scrapbookers out there, but at least I wanted to try as Simple Stories really is one of my most favourite companies (I also applied on a whim for the Silhouette design team, and look at me now!). Today was the big reveal of the design team, and I already knew that I didn’t make it since I had not heard from them at all. However, I still went to their blog and checked the new team out. I must say that I was very happy to not know a single one of the new designers. Really. Yes, you read that right. I love that there are 24 new designers that I am going to discover. There aren’t any big names like Missy Whidden or Zinia (who seem to be in every single design team in existence!) so I am glad that Simple Stories have chosen “smaller” names.

This weekend there has been an online crop over at the Paper Issues facebook group. I had all the will in the world to participate, but when I looked at the challenges this morning, I wasn’t inspired by any of them! It’s funny how you can have mojo non stop for a few days and when you really want to create, you can’t force it. So I decided not to force it and left it be. I will go back maybe at some point this week (the challenges are open all next week too) and see if I enter any!

And this is it for now. Hopefully I will get some scrapping time tomorrow night after the kids have gone to bed!

Thanks for stopping by,
Maria x

Lottie Loves Paper Guest Designer Layout – Be you

Hello scrapbook fans! Welcome to my blog once again 🙂

Today I bring you layout #4, my last layout as Guest Designer for Lottie Loves Paper.

This layout is a bit similar to the “Lovely” one I made the other day, as I use the same vellum paper, however, this time I am using it slightly differently! Instead of painting the actual vellum, this time I have watercoloured the patterned paper from the same collection, and layered the vellum above it, giving a very cool effect! The vellum is only attached at one point underneath the photo, so you can lift it and see the paper underneath with all the watercolours 🙂 Unfortunately, the pattern in the paper and in the vellum don’t quite match up, but I still think the effect is quite nice.

The vellum and patterned paper are from Pinkfresh Studio and the rest of the embellishments and papers layering the photo are from Dear Lizzy. These two collections actually coordinate quite well!

And here’s my layout!

Scrapbooking layout – Fine little day

Hi all!

This layout I made on Saturday as a challenge on the Lottie Loves Paper facebook page. The challenge was to use the following recipe:

  • 2 photos
  • At least three different patterned paper
  • A tag
  • Buttons/Flair
  • Yellow
  • Enamel
  • Handwritten journalling

I must admit that I really struggled. I sat down in front of my computer and started looking through Pinterest, I went backwards and forwards searching for inspiration, I even almost started two scraplifts! But in the end I decided to just keep it simple… simple always works, doesn’t it!?

I used old papers for backing the photos and some newer stuff from Dear Lizzy to embellish, but other than that the layout is quite clean. Instead of buttons or flair, I used some old brads from my stash that I’ve had for donkeys years. As I was scrapping directly into prebound books before, I was never able to use them, as you have to pierce into the page to put them on. But now that I am doing 12×12 I can!

And this is the layout:

And a close up of the brads:

The journalling is about how much my kids have changed. The first two times that the photographer visited the nursery, they both looked miserable and hardly smiled for the camera. And look at them now! Two completely different children!

I hope you have liked this layout, and read you soon!

Scrapbooking layout – You are my sunshine

Hello everyone!

Today I bring you a layout that I have created for the March challenge over at For the Love of Pretty Paper. The challenge was to use acetate in a creative way so I decided to use mine as part of the background!

I bought this piece of acetate and the cat papers at the Hey Little Magpie pop-up shop at the Birds of a Feather workshop last weekend and I knew exactly what I wanted to do the moment I saw them! The layout is inspired on a Manxy Cat Crafts (Sarah Costain) layout, and I can tell you already that I will not be doing that ruffled ribbon technique any time soon! That was hard!

The cat papers are from My Mind’s Eye “Meow” collection and the acetate is from Teresa Collins Signature Essentials. The ribbon I went to Hobbycraft especially for. I have several types of pink ribbon at home but neither were wide enough, but Hobbycraft had just what I needed. The right width and also with grey polka dots! Perfect! The flair came with a Lottie Loves Paper kit a few months ago, and I can’t right remember which collection it is from… I am thinking Cocoa Vanilla Studios, but not 100% sure. There are some “fake sequins”, which are Pinkfresh Studio “Felicity” and a few black enamel dots. The “sunshine” in the title is from Maggie Holmes and the alphas are from Simple Stories.

Very simple layout as you can see, but I love how effective it is! And also, as you could have probably imagined by now, quite difficult to photograph since the background is transparent!

Here we go:

Lottie Loves Paper Guest Designer Layout – Love you

Hello lovely scrappers!

Today I bring you layout #3 for Lottie Loves Paper.

Have I mentioned before how amazing this kit is? Well, in case you haven’t heard me say it before… it is! The lovely Sarah is also opening subscriber spaces from April onwards, so if you are thinking of subscribing, now is the moment! Go to the website and look for Monthly Kits.

So, my layout today is inspired on one of the layouts that I did at the Paige Evans workshop. For her class I chose the star die cut, however there was an option of a heart in the same style. When I sat down to create this layout, I wanted to have hearts and this cut file from the Silhouette store was just what I wanted.

I used the papers from the kit for backing my hearts. They are a mixture of Dear Lizzy Lovely Day and Pink Paislee Oh my Heart. The embellishments, both normal stickers and chipboard, are also from Dear Lizzy Lovely Day. There are also a few enamel dots that came with the kit. I want to say they are from Pinkfresh Studio, but I am not 100%. The black cardstock background also came with the kit, however I decided to spray a bit with white Heidi Swapp Color Shine from my stash. I think it breaks the “blackness” a bit and makes the background blend a bit softer with the heart die cut.

And here it is!

Loveyou
