Artful Angels Crop – October 2016

What a fantastic day! This time was a million times better than the last crop at Artful Angels. Maybe it’s because I had serious lack of sleep last time, but this time it was a completely different experience. Everyone was friendlier and I chatted with all the ladies at my table. We even had lunch together and I could feel like the relationships are starting to build (with me – they all know each other already)

Scrapping-wise, the day started slow and it took me a long time to finish the first layout, however, after lunch I managed to get so much more done! Although, I must admit that some of my layouts were very plain this time, making them faster to build.

And without further ado, here they are!

I haven’t unpacked anything since I will be going straight into the scrap cafe retreat on Friday! So excited about it!

Scrap Cafe Crop – Reading September 2016

Apologies for being so late writing this post. I’ve had a very busy week!

I had a nice time at the Scrap Cafe Crop in Reading last weekend. I sat next to a really lovely lady called Lynne and we got on quite well. I wasn’t as productive as I could have been (only three layouts!) but I am very happy with the result of all three of them.

For this layout I used a very large card with the title. The card was from a “project-life-style” collection, although I can’t remember which. I bought it at the crop shop and threw the packaging straight away, so can’t remember the name. I decided to delineate the outside of the words to give it a bit more interest and I really like how it turned out.

The rest of the backing papers are from Simple Stories “Sunshine and Happiness”, and the embellishments are from one of Lottie Loves Papers kits, but I forget which one.

(I’m just realising that it is going to be very difficult for me to come up with a list of products used in my layouts as more often than not I just throw everything into my stash and forget about collections or manufacturers)

Dad tickles

For this layout I used a sheet of paper from the Fancy Pants Millie & June. I fussy cut the hearts that I like the most and used them to border my photo. I used other papers from the same collection for matting the photo.

Rain Rain go away

This layout has been praised quite a lot on Facebook on the last few days. I really like it, the embellishments really work well, however it is not my most favourite layout so far.

The embellishments are mainly from the Echo Park collection “Sunny days ahead”, although there are a couple of Shimelle’s stickers and also a few Sn@p ones.

My next crop is on the 8th of next month, Hursley again. And the week after that is the retreat in Bracknell! I am so excited about the retreat, I can tell you!

Crops, retreats and other musings

Apologies for the lack of content lately, I have been quite busy!

On Saturday last week I attended the Artful Angels crop near Winchester. This was my second time, the first time being back in April! (I couldn’t make it in May because we were on holiday in Cornwall, I couldn’t make it in June because it was Jon’s brother’s birthday do, I couldn’t make it in July because we were on holiday in Spain, and they didn’t run one in August!)

Unfortunately I didn’t enjoy it as much as I would have at any other time, because the previous night I was out with some girl friends and went to bed stupidly late! So in the morning I drove from Blackwater to Hursley… The drive was easy enough actually. I thought it would take me longer, but I was there by 10:30, which I was happy about.

But yeah, due to the lack of sleep it’s like I wasn’t there. The ladies that I sat with last time were there again this time (Lisa Jane, Sarah, Elise, Jo? and Paula) and I chatted a bit with them. But I don’t know if it’s because I was so tired, it didn’t feel as friendly as the previous time…

Still, I was productive enough and managed to finish four layouts! Not bad!

I also wanted to say that previously I hadn’t been 100% satisfied with the quality of my home printed photos, so for this crop I ordered them via Jessops. I selected my photos and placed an order online on the Monday, kind of hoping that they would be ready for collection and day or two later (they don’t tell you how long it takes on their website). However when I still hadn’t heard from them on Thursday afternoon, I started to panic! Luckily they texted me on Friday morning saying that the order was ready to pick up…. Phew!! However, when I got to the shop and I gave all the details to the girl, she couldn’t find my order!! After waiting for another 10 minutes or so and asking for a manager to look, they finally found them (the downside of a surname like mine… they had stored it under “C” instead of “L” like the girl was expecting)

But now I have very high quality prints to scrapbook until end of April, so quite pleased about that! I’ll just be more careful when ordering the next batch, to order it with plenty of time!

Tomorrow is the regular crop in Bracknell, however I am going to miss it! It is the birthday party of one of the twins’ friends and we couldn’t miss it. However I am planning on going the following week to the one in Earley, despite having said that I wouldn’t go again due to being a nightmare drive… But I really enjoy them, and I catch up so much with the scrapbook!

The lady who runs the crops in Bracknell and Earley also runs Retreats (a retreat is like a weekend-long crop, where you stay in a hotel or country house). The next one she is running is in mid-October and I have already booked my place! It is at the Hilton Hotel in Bracknell and they include a light dinner, plus all the other stuff that is available at the regular crops. I just can’t wait to go!

And here are the layouts that I managed at the Artful Angels crop. I am particularly pleased with the “naughty kids” one 🙂

August’s Scrap Cafe crop in Bracknell

Last Saturday I attended my first crop in Bracknell (and my third crop ever! – The first one was south of Winchester and the second one in Reading. The Reading one is run by Lorraine, owner of “the Scrap Café” who also runs the Bracknell one)

We had quite a miserable day, weather wise, on Saturday so it was the perfect day to spend a few hours doing some scrapbooking!

The Bracknell crop takes place at the Hilton Hotel, which is on the A322 just a few miles off the M3. This is super convenient for me, because it’s a very straight forward drive. The crop in Reading is a very complicated drive going through Reading housing estates. I found it a very stressful drive. Bracknell however was very easy to find. So I have decided to stick with the Bracknell crop rather than Reading.

The room at the hotel is quite comfortable. I was sitting by a big window, so I had plenty of natural light. Although I am aware that there were plenty of other ladies sitting on the other side of the room without the natural light…

I already knew a few of the ladies from my previous crop in Reading, so it was great getting into the conversations without the awkwardness of the first time. They are a really nice bunch of women and I really enjoy their company. Certainly it’s a totally different experience than scrapping on your own!

I finally finished the last two layouts to complete my 2014 book and started working on 2015. In total, I managed 5 and a half layouts (although one was double). The “half” one, I finished when I got home.

And these are my favourite layouts of the day (I added some typed journalling to “A day at the farm” at home)
