Scrapbook Layout – The beginning of our adventure

Hello all!

Yesterday I attended my second crop of the month (gasp!) and it was with the lovely Artful Angels ladies. This is one of the layouts that I made at the crop, and it is a scraplift from the lovely Sarah, who attends the crop and who is also the owner of Lottie Loves Paper, where I get my monthly embellishment kit from.

This is her layout which I scraplifted:

And this is my take on it!

The background stripey paper is from Kaisercraft “Back to basics” collection, and the butterflies are cut from my 6×6 Crate Paper “Chasing Dreams” paper pad. The “adventure” copper thicker is from Shimelle’s “Go Now Go” collection, and the other alphas are Basic Grey from my stash (similar to these ones)

I added some watercolour to the white cardstock using the packaging technique, and I also matted my photo in some pink and gold paper from my stash (do not know the manufacturer).

This is the very first photo that I have scrapbooked about my wedding, and I have really surprised myself using pinks, as the main colour scheme of my wedding was turquoise/teal and black… Maybe I will scrap another photo in those colours another time 🙂

Transferring the 8×8 books

Hello! Just a quick update with my crafty adventures from the last couple of days.

Yesterday I had some spare time and decided to tackle one of the tasks that have been putting some weight on my shoulders in the last few months, and that is transferring my old 8×8 prebound albums to D-ring albums!

I bought the albums and page protectors ages ago and had been sitting on my desk waiting to be done. But I had this idea in mind that I was going to do some sort of process video, with a flip through of all the layouts before I went ahead with detaching the pages from the book, so I just delayed it again and again.

But yesterday I finally did it! As it happens, I only had enough page protectors to complete two out of four albums, and now I have had to order some more!

Unfortunately, the pages are smaller than the page protectors, so the layouts are quite loose, but at least they are protected! And if anything decides to detach itself, at least it will be contained within the protector.

I am so happy that I did this! It also was a perfect opportunity to look at my old layouts and especially at some of them that I had completely forgotten, and also marvel at how my style has evolved in these three years. It is quite a crafty journey!

8x8 book transfer

In addition to the 8×8 albums, yesterday I also bought a new 12×12 album which I am going to use as The Book of Me. It’s soft pink and hot pink, from the Paradise Crush collection and I absolutely love it, so happy with it! I have moved all the layouts that I have so far for the Book of Me and it is starting to look quite full! So many more layouts to make though 🙂

I’m the proud owner of TWO postbound albums now! Yay me!

Scrapbook Layout – Crazy hair, don’t care

Hello all!

Today I bring you another layout that I made at the Scrap Cafe crop last weekend. I love how this layout came up! It is scraplifted from a very talented lady at the For the Love of Pretty Paper page, although I loved putting my spin on it!

The layout is part of the Book of Me. I talked about recently how the alphabetical prompts that I came up with were not suitable for scrapbooking layout format, since many of those prompts don’t have a photo. So, luckily, Paula – who came up with the idea of doing monthly prompts for the Book of Me in the facebook group, posted the prompt of “Decades” just the other day. The idea is scrapping a photo of you from a previous decade. I went with these photos of me from the very early 2000s, when I had my hair dyed in so many colours!

The pentagons die cut I designed from scratch and cut with my Silhouette Cameo. I found it simple enough to create, however I am aware that it is not perfect. The gaps between shapes are not all equidistant. For the papers I used Simple Stories Sunshine and Happiness and for the embellishments I went through my stash and combined lots of different manufacturers and collections. Theres Paige Evans Take Me Away, Simple Stories Posh, and a mixture of Bella Blvd Little Bits Stickers. I love how they all come together in the layout! The gorgeous colourful Thickers are from Shimelle’s new collection Little by Little.

The only thing that I don’t love about this layout is that the cut is not centred to the page, it is slightly crooked! If it keeps bugging me, I may trim the edges of the paper to make the pentagons be centred and then mat the cardstock on some pattern paper. But we’ll see if it bugs me or not!

So, here it is! I hope you like it 🙂

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone!

I hope you had a lovely Christmas and Crafty Santa brought you lots of pretty goodies! Crafty Santa was good with me and brought me an ATG gun and a huge crop bag! I have now started using the ATG gun and it’s amazing, so much time saved compared to the double sided sticky tape that I was using! And the crop bag I’ll get to use this coming weekend! Yay!

I didn’t scrap at all since my last post about the Glynn Barton book back in the middle of December and I must admit that I really missed scrapping during the whole Christmas period and the first couple of weeks of January.

I kept being active on Facebook for the most part of it, and I kept seeing gorgeous layouts posted to all the scrapping groups that I belong to, and I also kept watching process videos on youtube (although not so many, as December Daily was taking over and I am not into December Daily – yet), and I was so jealous! I wanted to have time to sit down at my desk too and have a play myself. But it wasn’t to be! The first time that I got to create just last Saturday!

However, all this time that I didn’t create, I did have lots of opportunities to think about what I want to create and achieve in the new year, and I reached lots of conclusions!

The first decision that I reached was that I no longer want to work chronologically. It is so restrictive! I have loved creating the twins’ first few books (four so far: 2013, 2014 part one, 2014 part two, and 2015 part one), however, now that I have almost finished the first 2015 one, I am not very inspired to start the second one! I love seeing other people’s layouts, with photos that vary greatly in years or seasons or events. I want to have this freedom to jump from a Christmas layout today to a summer one tomorrow. In order to stop scrapping chronologically, I need to stop using the Hobbycraft prebound books. Again, I have enjoyed using them until now, and I may still use them for mini albums (like the Glynn Barton one) but no more.

The second decision is very closely related to the first one, and it’s that since I am not going to be restricted to prebound albums, I am also going to stop scrapping on 8×8 size and move towards 12×12. I have already created two layouts on this size (blog posts coming soon) last weekend and I have loved every minute of it.

Another benefit of moving to 12×12 is that now I can just send 90% of my pictures to print just like they are, without having to edit them first in photoshop to get two or three smaller photos on a 4×6. It is so time consuming! I suppose sometimes I may still do that when I want to use two or three photos on one layout, but that would be the exception to the rule rather than the other way around.

At the same time, my other objectives for this year are the same ones that I talked about in this post (except for the First Communion order, which has already been done. I will blog about it very soon). The book of me, however, is going to have to be rethought. I was looking again at the prompts that I came up with, with each letter of the alphabet, and I don’t know how doable some of them are. I have already decided that some layouts would be photo-less, however looking at them again has made me realise that tons of them would not have a photo, and that is not what I want. So I may ditch the whole letter of the alphabet idea and just scrap the photos that I already have, but telling a story, from childhood to current likes and dislikes.

In this new year I am also going to try to attend at least one crop every month, two if possible! I talked to my husband about it and he agrees that I need this time for myself. The dates for the Artful Angels crop in Winchester are great this year and have already been put in my calendar. The dates for the Scrap Cafe crops however are not so good. Especially the dates for Bracknell, which would be my preferred location, happen to be not so favourable. Also, I won’t be able to attend their first retreat in March, which is a shame, but I already have something else planned for that weekend.

Oh, and did I mention that I will also be attending the new Paige Taylor Evans workshop in March? I have seen some reveals of her new collection and I know I am going to absolutely love it, so I’m really excited about that! We will be going to spend the weekend at the in-laws and I can travel to the venue on the Saturday, just like we did for the November workshop. More info on the Birds of a Feather website 🙂

And the last thing… Last year I applied to become a Design Team member for the Lottie Loves Paper kit, and I really hope I get chosen! I think being a DT member would push me to try new things and I am sure it would broaden the way I scrapbook, so it would be a fantastic challenge for me! If I don’t get chosen is not the end of the world, but I would very much love it!

I’ve got a couple more things to talk about, but I will save them for another blog post… I am aware this one is already very long!

Read you soon!

Book of Me project update

The mixed media project that I was working on recently just became the cover page of the Book of Me album that I am starting soon.

The watercolour base that I showed you on my mixed media post stayed pretty much the same, however, when it came to putting the (very large!) photo of me on top, I had to add some more watercolouring to the left hand side. Thankfully, it was super easy to do with my new water brush 🙂

I have also now come up with my list of A-Z topics. I was going to wait for the Facebook group to come up with prompts, but I am a rebel, aren’t I, and I decided to go and do my own thing, like I always do!
