Throw Back Thursday – Thanks card

Hello everyone!

What a busy few days, eh? I have posted brand new projects and layouts almost every day for the last 8 days!! Time for a rest 🙂 That’s why I thought today I would bring you a Throw Back Thursday with a card from a couple of years ago.

I made this card for the carers of my twins at nursery. Eric and Elisa were moving to the next class at nursery and the carers had done such a great job with them that I felt like I needed to say Thanks (and also gave them a massive box of chocolates, they deserved them!).

Thanks card

I still love this card. Sometimes I look at some of my early creations and I cringe a bit, but you can see that by now (this is May 2015) my style had evolved pretty much to where it is now. I used my scrapbooking supplies, like thickers and cardstock.

Anyway, I hope you like it and read you very soon!

Transferring the 8×8 books

Hello! Just a quick update with my crafty adventures from the last couple of days.

Yesterday I had some spare time and decided to tackle one of the tasks that have been putting some weight on my shoulders in the last few months, and that is transferring my old 8×8 prebound albums to D-ring albums!

I bought the albums and page protectors ages ago and had been sitting on my desk waiting to be done. But I had this idea in mind that I was going to do some sort of process video, with a flip through of all the layouts before I went ahead with detaching the pages from the book, so I just delayed it again and again.

But yesterday I finally did it! As it happens, I only had enough page protectors to complete two out of four albums, and now I have had to order some more!

Unfortunately, the pages are smaller than the page protectors, so the layouts are quite loose, but at least they are protected! And if anything decides to detach itself, at least it will be contained within the protector.

I am so happy that I did this! It also was a perfect opportunity to look at my old layouts and especially at some of them that I had completely forgotten, and also marvel at how my style has evolved in these three years. It is quite a crafty journey!

8x8 book transfer

In addition to the 8×8 albums, yesterday I also bought a new 12×12 album which I am going to use as The Book of Me. It’s soft pink and hot pink, from the Paradise Crush collection and I absolutely love it, so happy with it! I have moved all the layouts that I have so far for the Book of Me and it is starting to look quite full! So many more layouts to make though 🙂

I’m the proud owner of TWO postbound albums now! Yay me!

Glynn Barton Book – Work in progress

Hello all! Apologies for the lack of content lately… I haven’t been scrapping much in the last few days, and the scrapping that I have done is part of the Glynn Barton book and unfortunately I haven’t finished a single page yet!

I selected and printed all my photos, and decided to work from a Simple Stories “I am” sn@p set, and let me tell you… working from a single set or collection is making the whole process so much easier! I am seriously loving it, not having to go through all my stash looking for papers that will coordinate together, etc. I am, however, going through my stash for the alphas but that IS fun, so no complaining there.

I am probably one third there. I have written the journalling on my computer on a typewriter font and I have printed all the text for the pages I have done so far. As I create the base of a page, then I also write the journalling, so it’s a much faster process than my usual one.

I have created a little video, with the help of my cat Pepper, showing the work in progress. I won’t have much scrapping time, if any at all, this side of Christmas but hopefully I will finish the book early on in the new year.

On inspiration and other projects

My husband has been working night shifts for the last few days. Not great to be honest, having to deal with the twins on my own for bedtime and morning routine, however, great for having lots of ME time in the evening for scrapping!

I have been thinking lots lately about inspiration. Like every other crafter in the world, I rely a lot on Pinterest. I pin a lot. I don’t think I am the most prolific pinner in the world, but I do pin quite a lot. Mostly layouts recently, although I also pin sketches and other “mood board” ideas.

I also take lots of inspiration from the super talented ladies that I have discovered thanks to the Facebook Scrapbooking group (there are tons of them, but when I talk about THE facebook group, I am referring to “For the Love of Pretty Paper” – group that I now also admin!). There are really talented scrapbookers in the group, ladies that I also follow on youtube, but to be honest, I am more likely to see their layouts on facebook first.

So, who have I been inspired by lately?

Sarah Costain, aka Manxy Cat Crafts.

In particular I loved this layout that she created recently. I was fascinated by the hearts background, so -as I already had that same hearts mask- I decided to have a go myself!

My first attempt didn’t go as planned. I must admit that it had been a couple of weeks since I had seen her layout, so I was trying to replicate it from memory. However memory served me wrong, and what I did didn’t really look that good (I sprayed the background with blue heidi shine but I also mixed the modeling paste with blue ink, making the final product too samey)

So my second attempt went much better. I sprayed in different colours and left the paste white. And that’s where the resemblance with Sarah’s layout ends!

Laura Rumble, aka Laura R or Beads Buttons and Birds

When I went to scrapbook the photo below, I took out some frames that I bought ages ago and that I hadn’t got round to use them. As I lay them on the paper, I remembered having watched Laura’s video where we uses the same frames. I was instantly inspired by her layout, the way she used the watercolour under the frames, the way she created the title… And I set off to create my own version!

I must say that I really enjoyed creating this layout. I am getting more and more comfortable using watercolours, despite having thought not that long ago that I would never even try playing with them!

Same habit

I have a couple more layouts to show you, but I will keep those for another blog 🙂

Artful Angels crop – November 2016

So the last crop of the year has come and gone. What a nice day I had… It was quiet, everybody seemed to be concentrating a lot on their layouts and there wasn’t as much chatting as there has been before, but it was still a very nice atmosphere, very friendly and I feel more and more comfortable there the more I go. I’m not sure I am going to become “best friends” with the ladies there anytime soon, but I still really enjoy their company.

I managed four layouts yesterday. I think I would have been able to squeeze a fifth one, however I did some mixed media on my second layout, with texture paste and ink splatters which took a long time to dry… Next time I need to avoid texture paste, or just take my heat gun with me! (I asked all the ladies at the crop for a heat gun but nobody had taken one…)

All in all I am very happy with all four layouts. One of the things that I really like about attending crops is the sheer amount of tools available to borrow. For example, for my first layout (First BBQ) I used a round border punch, a square punch, a notebook border punch and the typewriter. For the second layout (Feed me baby) I borrowed the mask for the mixed media…

So without further ado, here they are!
