Another mixed media project

Hello all! This post is being written from the lovely Ratley, the village where my in laws live, as we’ve come to spend a few days.

Today I wanted to talk about a new mixed media project that I have started. I took inspiration from these two layouts, and somehow I want to combine them both into one:

Basically I want to take the design on the right (popped up smaller square in the middle of a 12×12, with elements underneath) but use watercolour as well as cut out elements underneath the the popped up square.

This project is going to be unique as well because I am going to scrapbook about ME! I made a page with a photo of me for National Scrapbooking Week back in May, and I have a page with Jon and me from back in the day, pre-kids. But other than those two, there aren’t any photos/layouts of just ME!

As I didn’t have any watercolours, I had to pop into hobbycraft and buy a set, as you have to ๐Ÿ™‚ I am quite pleased with it, as it has got plenty of shades.

So, so far, I have cut lots of small flowers to use as the elements popping out of underneath the central square. I cut tons, but I am not sure I am going to use them all. I may end up only using a third of them! I will have to play and see what quantity looks better:

Flower elements

To the left of the photos are the watercolours that I originally chose to go with the flowers. The photo of me that I am going to use on the layout is in black and white so I am happy that these colours are not going to clash with the photo.

And here is the watercolour applied to the cardstock (previously primed with with gesso):

At the beginning I wasn’t sure about it… I thought the watercolour had gone a bit too over the place, however the more I look at it, the more I like it, so I am sure it will be fine in the end.

And this is all I have got for now! I still have to print the photo and I want to either type or print the journalling, which most probably will be hidden behind the photo in a tag of some sort.

I can’t wait to get it finished! It’s been in this half-done state for far too long ๐Ÿ™‚

TBT – Happy Halloween

Hello! Apologies for the lack of posts lately. The truth is that I haven’t done much crafting at all since the crop in Reading last month! Life has kept me busy and the loft conversion has kept me out of my craft room!

I’m attending an Artful Angels crop this coming Saturday and a full weekend retreat in Bracknell the following weekend, so I will hopefully be catching up with lots of layouts on the twins scrapbook!

Today, however, I bring you a Throw Back Thursday from last year’s Halloween’s season. Halloween is nearly upon us, with lots of costumes and pumpkins everywhere, so I thought it was adequate to show you these two creations.

This first one is a bunting that I made with my silhouette that we hung outside our front door for the trick-or-treaters. I was very proud of it and kept it to use again this year ๐Ÿ™‚

The second one is a little addition that I made for the treat-or-treat bags. At this point last year I was still trying to promote my “business” so I thought these would be a great marketing idea (however I can already tell you that they didn’t work one bit – I won’t bother to make these again this year, as they took me quite a while to make! I made approximately 50 of them. The “shop” website address was stamped at the back of the card)

Scrap Cafe Crop – Reading September 2016

Apologies for being so late writing this post. I’ve had a very busy week!

I had a nice time at the Scrap Cafe Crop in Reading last weekend. I sat next to a really lovely lady called Lynne and we got on quite well. I wasn’t as productive as I could have been (only three layouts!) but I am very happy with the result of all three of them.

Savo(u)r the small things

For this layout I used a very large card with the title. The card was from a “project-life-style” collection, although I can’t remember which. I bought it at the crop shop and threw the packaging straight away, so can’t remember the name. I decided to delineate the outside of the words to give it a bit more interest and I really like how it turned out.

The rest of the backing papers are from Simple Stories “Sunshine and Happiness”, and the embellishments are from one of Lottie Loves Papers kits, but I forget which one.

(I’m just realising that it is going to be very difficult for me to come up with a list of products used in my layouts as more often than not I just throw everything into my stash and forget about collections or manufacturers)

Dad tickles

For this layout I used a sheet of paper from theย Fancy Pants Millie & June. I fussy cut the hearts that I like the most and used them to border my photo. I used other papers from the same collection for matting the photo.

Rain Rain go away

This layout has been praised quite a lot on Facebook on the last few days. I really like it, the embellishments really work well, however it is not my most favourite layout so far.

The embellishments are mainly from the Echo Park collection “Sunny days ahead”, although there are a couple of Shimelle’s stickers and also a few Sn@p ones.

My next crop is on the 8th of next month, Hursley again. And the week after that is the retreat in Bracknell! I am so excited about the retreat, I can tell you!

Favourite products

Over the years I have bought many products. Some I’ve used and loved, and others have stayed almost untouched for a long time in my cupboards. It is only through trial and error that you get to find your own style and you you instantly know whether you’re going to use a product just by looking at it online (or at the shop)

In the early days I bought lots of “distressed” products, kind of with a grunge feel to them. Only after spending a fortune on paper pads I realised that I didn’t really like the distressed look at all! I much more prefer clean lines and bright colours.

So what are my favourite products?

I am obsessed with alphas. Be it in sticker form or Thickers. I love them! I can’t imagine not putting titles on my scrapbook pages, and they are super handy as well for personalised cards!

I haven’t counted how many alpha sticker sheets or thickers packs I have, but it’s lots. Believe me.

Embellishment stickers.

That’s what I call them, I’m pretty sure they have a different name… Hang on, let me go and find out… “Element stickers” or “Accent stickers”, that’s what some people call them.

But yeah, I also have tons of this. As I already have tons of paper, what I normally do is just buy the embellisment/element/accent stickers from paper collections. Some of my favourite online shops sell them loose, so I buy them all!

I haven’t counted how many I’ve got of this either, but definitely more than a 12×12 pizza box full ๐Ÿ™‚

Colour mists

I have only been using colour mists for a few months, but for me now they are an essential product! I don’t use them on every layout, but on the ones that I do use them on, it gives a really nice finishing touch.

I only have less than 10 bottles, out of which three of those I use all the time (gold, charcoal and white) I want to expand my collection -plus I need to buy more gold one soon, I am running out!- to get more bright colours and especially a couple of shades of blue! I don’t have any blues and it’s my favourite colour!
