The latest craze (for me, that is… as this has been around for a long time) is Mixed Media. With mixed media you use other products rather than just paper and paper based embellishments in your scrapbooking layouts. It’s all about inks, and paints, and paste, etc.
So after binge watching lots of mixed media scrapbookers on youtube lately, I decided it was time for me to give it a go. Off I went to Hobbycraft (I was going anyway for other stuff… or that’s what I want to believe) and I bought some basics:
- Acrylic Gesso: this is a primer for your cardstock base. You can add ink, watercolours, paint, etc, without ruining the cardstock/paper.
- Modelling paste: As the name says, this is a “relief” paste. You can use it on its own or you can mix it with other paint or ink sprays to create your own colour.
- Shimmer mister in turquoise: This is very similar to the Heidi Swapp Colour Shines that I already own, however, I didn’t have anything in a blue-ish shade, so I got this gorgeous turquoise colour.
I also got a palette knife and a little tray for mixing colours.
I am currently having a play with all the items that I bought. I am sure it’s going to take me a few goes before I get the hang of it and I achieve the desired results. I am making a video as I go along. It’s taking a while because you have to wait for everything to dry: wait for the gesso to dry, wait for the ink to dry, wait for the modelling past to harden, etc.
So once I’ve finished this layout, I promise to upload it so we can have a laugh about it!
